Your Donations to SFWA Make A Difference!

Did you know that SFWA is considered a public charity under its 501(c)3 status? Did you know a monetary gift can help us with our ongoing mission to support, defend, advocate, educate, and promote both within our organization and the SFF community-at-large?

When people think about donating to SFWA, two funds often come to mind; The Emergency Medical Fund (EMF), and the SFWA Legal Fund. They both serve an important purpose and have helped many SFWA members with medical and legal costs.

However, the organization would like to make you aware that SFWA has two other funds that have a much larger reach into the SFF Community.

Our Givers Fund not only funnels donations into the EMF and Legal funds when needed, but is a repository for donations that can be used as grants. Deserving organizations that work in and for the SFF community can apply for those grants. In the past, SFWA has given grants to the Alpha SFF Teen Writing Workshop, Launch Pad,Clarion West, Northern Illinois University Archives, the Parsec YA Lecture Series, and more.

Additionally, if you mark your donation below with "Use Where the Need is Greatest," we can apply your donation to existing programs and services that help the SFF community-at-large including potentially funneling your gift back into all three of the funds mentioned above. Donating to this particular fund helps the organization continue many of our important missions!

We thank you in advance for your generous gift. We are working hard to support both our members and the SFF community and can continue to do with your ongoing support.

Donations can be given to a specific fund, see below, or to the SFWA general funds.

Where the Need is Greatest allows SFWA to use your donation to bolster and expand existing outreach and programs and create new ones as needed.

The SFWA Givers Fund combines non-restricted charitable donations to SFWA and will use these funds to provide needed grants to genre-related organizations and/or individuals.

The SFWA Legal Fund makes grants available to authors who must take a writing-related dispute to court. Each grant is made on a case-by-case basis, after review by the Grievance Committee and the SFWA attorney.

The SFWA Emergency Medical Fund offers grants to members facing unexpected medical expenses. SFWA members are eligible to request assistance from the Fund.

We thank you in advance for your donation. As SFWA is now operating under 501(c)(3) rules, donations are now tax deductible to the extent allowed by law and your personal tax situation. Donors will receive a thank you letter for tax reporting purposes. Please consult your tax advisor.
